Beehive Elementary
Research indicates the importance of sensory design and biophilia within the elementary school as it can help with sensory processing issues that have been left undetected and reduce stress and anxiety from the new structured classroom. Beehive Elementary was designed to accommodate 180 students between first and sixth grade as well as roughly 40 school faculty. The suggested design solutions for an inclusive elementary school were: to include sensory design through the use of daylighting, views of nature, sound and touch; to include biophilic design; and to design for collaborative spaces. Creating a school environment that can harness different energies into healthy and focused energies can help students be more successful with their studies which in turn can be beneficial for teachers as they have more time for teaching.
